The Difference Between Advertising and Marketing
The terms advertising and marketing get used interchangeably by most people but they are in fact two separate and distinct concepts.
What is Advertising?
Advertising (noun); the act or practice of calling public attention to one's product, service, need, etc., especially by paid announcements in newspapers and magazines, over radio or television, on billboards, etc.
What is Marketing?
Marketing (noun); the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods or services from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including; research, planning, customer management, advertising, pricing and distribution.
So What's the Difference?
The main point of difference is that advertising is just one component of marketing.
To use an analogy, if you were baking a "marketing cake" then advertisting would be just one of the ingredients.
